Fire Season Status

"Fire seasons" are designed to control the number and type of ignitions at particularly hazardous times of the year.

Did you Know? That between 30% and 60% of all land burnt each year are from escaped land clearing burns.
A permit does not absolve you of responsibility. Escaped fires have cost indiviuals between $1000 and $250,000 in fire fighting costs.

Open Fire Season
Means no permit is required to light a fire in the open air. You are responsible for any consequences should the fire escape control.
Means a permit is required from the relevant rural fire authority to light a fire in the open air. These generally exclude gas BBQs. You are responsible for any consequences should the fire escape control. Means a total fire ban and lighting of fires in the open air is not permitted. Any existing permits would be cancelled.
